While mobile games are evolving in terms of visuals, technical complexity and design, it’s now high time that they start evolving in terms of monetization as well. This is the goal of Tegro, a new initiative launched by Siddharth Menon, co-founder and COO of WazirX, and Indian game development firm, SuperGaming.
The news: Tegro is developing a game marketplace for players to trade in-game assets, which will be primarily powered by Non-fungible-tokens (NFTs).
- Web3 will be the next-generation Internet, based on blockchain technology
- The Blockchain incorporates decentralization concepts and is powered by cryptocurrency. In contrast to the previous iteration of the internet, known as Web2 or Web2.0, where data and content were concentrated in the hands of a few companies known as ‘Big Tech,’ Web3 is an attempt to empower end-users and decentralized control.
What did they say: Siddharth Menon said Web3 will shape the gaming industry’s future. “We believe that, just as mobile and free-to-play were paradigm shifts in gaming, Web3 is the next step. In-app purchases in battle royale games such as BGMI are familiar to today’s gamers, but they have no value outside of the scope of the game. This is where cryptocurrency gaming comes in handy.”
