After wet spell, MET predicts rise in temperature across country in coming days

Following a wet winter, minimum temperatures are expected to rise across the country over the next two weeks, according to the weather service.

The news: It is predicted that rainfall would be above normal in sections of the extreme southern peninsula and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its extended forecast for the next two weeks that dry weather is extremely expected over the rest of the country for most days.
  • Between February 24 and March 2, minimum temperatures are expected to gradually rise across most of the country, according to the forecast.
  • Various broad scale features, sea conditions, and model guidance, according to the weather service, indicate that cyclogenesis is unlikely across the North Indian Ocean in the coming two weeks.
  • According to the report, cumulative rainfall across India for the winter season ended February 16 was 61.6 per cent higher than the long period average (LPA) and 72 per cent higher than the LPA in northwest India.

For February 19 and 20, the meteorological office has predicted high surface winds (25-35 kmph) across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
