Andhra Pradesh, 22 Sept – Thursday, September 22, 2022, SDPI workers chanted “NIA Go Back” in protest at the NIA raid on an SDPI leader’s home in the Andhra Pradeshi district of Kurnool. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) seized and sealed the Popular Front of India (PFI) office in Hyderabad this morning (NIA).
Today, many raids against alleged terrorist financing operations were conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and local police in 11 states, including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Assam.
The organisation has since searched 38 areas in Telangana (23 in Nizamabad, four in Hyderabad, seven in Jagityal, two in Nirmal, and one each in Adilabad and Karimnagar districts).
The NIA and ED raids started at around 3.30 this morning. Over 100 leaders of the Popular Front of India have been detained thus far by the government authorities. The raids were described by the Popular Front of India (PFI) as an instance of the government “using agencies to crush opposition voices.”
“Regular searches of leaders’ homes are proof that measures are being taken to silence divergent viewpoints. In a press release, SDPI said, “The Popular Front of India and the Social Democratic Party of India have stepped up to play the role of the opposition in battling the undemocratic, polarising politics of the Hindutva fascists that are putting the country in danger over the past few years as the mainstream political parties have grown silent about the atrocities committed by the fascists in the nation.”
