After allegations of “suspicious activities” being carried out at Landheke village in Moga district when polling was underway for the Punjab assembly elections on Sunday, police detained a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in which Bollywood actor and social activist Sonu Sood was seated.
The news: Malvika Sood Sachar, Sonu Sood’s sister, is running for Congress in the Moga district.
- According to police, the vehicle was detained at the request of an election observer. Satwant Singh, the SDM-cum-returning officer, also ordered video surveillance of Sonu Sood’s home.
What they said: “The SUV has been impounded on the grounds of suspicious conduct,” Davinder Singh, the city police station’s station house officer (SHO), stated.
- We received a report that the SUV was making rounds near the Landheke village polling booth. It has been seized. “More action is being taken.”
- According to sources, the vehicle belonged to a friend of Sonu Sood’s and he was using it while campaigning in Moga.
- “I have told Sonu Sood to remain in his residence since he is not permitted to move in the area because he does not have a vote in the Moga seat,” Satwant Singh stated. However, he disobeyed the order. As a result, I’ve ordered camera surveillance of his home.”
Meanwhile, due to technical difficulties with the electronic voting devices, polling in four booths in Moga district was delayed (EVMs).
According to officials, voting was delayed at Baghapurana constituency booth 198, Nihal Singh Wala constituency booth 13 and Moga constituency booths 160 and 161.
