Bihar Schools, Colleges Reopen: The Bihar government today agreed to allow schools, colleges, and coaching institutes to reopen for physical lessons following an improvement in the COVID-19 situation.

The news: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar indicated that while schools can reopen with half-staffing for classes up to 8, they can reopen with full staffing for classes 9 and up.

  • Colleges and coaching institutes have also been given permission to begin full-time offline programmes.

What he said: “All schools up to Class 8 can open with 50% capacity and all schools for Class 9 and beyond, colleges and coaching institutes can open with 100% attendance,” the chief minister tweeted.

In addition: Due to an increase in COVID-19 and Omicron cases in Bihar, the state government stated in January that schools for grades 1 through 8 would be closed until further notice.

  • However, schools in grades 9 and up, as well as institutions, were allowed to reopen with a 50% student population
  • Following the improvement in the Covid situation, many states reopened schools and institutions for physical education programmes in February. Schools for grades 9-12, colleges, and coaching centres in Delhi can reopen on Monday, and schools for lower grades can reopen on February 14.
  • The federal government recently updated its standards for restarting schools. States and Union Territories will now have to decide whether or not parents must consent to their children attending offline classes.

The centre proposed, among other things, bridging courses to compensate for the loss of learning caused by school closures.
