A BSF jawan shot himself after killing a colleague at a camp in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district on Monday.

The news: The incident took place early in the morning at the BSF’s Jalangi camp guarding the India-Bangladesh international border.

What Happened : According to officials, the two men got into a scuffle after they received summons from the local police.

  • The incident comes a day after five BSF personnel were killed at a camp in Amritsar. The accused jawan who shot the four was also killed.
  • On Sunday a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan allegedly opened fire indiscriminately at its camp, leaving four of his colleagues dead and another critically injured, before falling to a bullet.
  • The incident took place between 9:30 am and 9:45 am in the camp of the 144th battalion in the Khasa area of the district, about 12-13 km short of the Attari-Wagah crossing along the India-Pakistan international border.
  • The accused constable, Sateppa S K, 35, hailed from Karnataka.
  • According to officials, he was apparently upset about his duty hours and even fired shots at the vehicle of a second-in-command rank officer that was parked on the campus.
