China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday that Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, should not be included in America’s Indo-Pacific strategy.
The news: The US announced earlier this month that it would devote greater diplomatic and security resources to the Indo-Pacific region. Washington also stated that it would engage with regional and international partners to ensure peace and stability in the Taiwan-China strait.
- According to a Chinese foreign ministry statement, Wang warned Blinken over the phone that attempting to incorporate Taiwan in the policy to control China is sending all the “wrong signals.”
- Despite this, Wang stated that China is eager to work out its issues with the US and restore bilateral relations.
