“City will be free from COVID norms by Feb end,” Mumbai Mayor

Mumbai mayor

Mumbai mayor Kishori Pednekar declared on Tuesday that the city will be unlocked by the end of February as the country’s COVID-19 tally declines.

What he said: “We’ve made up our minds,” Kishori Pednekar said, emphasising the importance of strict adherence to the COVID policy.

  • “It is necessary for people to wear masks and maintain social distance,” Pednekar added.

What’s going on: In light of the recent rise in cases, the city is gradually lifting COVID-induced limitations that were imposed last month. The administration relaxed the night ban on February 1 and permitted restaurants and theatres to run at 50 per cent capacity, as was the case before the COVID-19 outbreak.

  • Beaches, gardens, and parks were also permitted to open with a capacity of 50 per cent.
  • Swimming pools and water parks with comparable capacity restrictions were also permitted by the administration. “Local tourist attractions will be open as usual. Weekly Bazaars will continue to operate as usual,” read an updated order.
  • The order further stated that all locations must strictly follow COVID-appropriate behaviour as well as any other guidelines set forth by the state government.

On Monday, Mumbai reported a total caseload of 10,50,811 illnesses, including 730 cases. According to figures from the state health department, the death toll has reached 16,666.
