The families of the victims have contested the bail given to Union Minister, Ajay Mishra Teni’s son, days after the Lakhimpur Kheri violence accused Ashish Mishra walked out of jail.
The news: The families of the victims have asked the Allahabad High Court to revoke Ashish Mishra’s bail for the October 3 violence, in which eight persons were allegedly ploughed down by an SUV apparently owned by the minister’s son, including four protesting farmers.
- According to web source Bar and Bench, the family members approached the court through attorney Prashant Bhushan because the government of Uttar Pradesh had failed to appeal against the court’s judgement regarding the bail.
- It is to be noted that two lawyers CS Panda and Shiv Kumar Tripathi, have filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the high court’s ruling giving Mishra bail.
The opposition parties slammed the bail given during the election season, claiming that it was intended to sway “Brahmin votes”.
