Firing is under probe, accept security’ Amit Shah to Owaisi

The attack on Hyderabad MP and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul (AIMIM) head Asaduddin Owaisi on February 3 is being investigated, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who also demanded that the latter accept the security given by the Union government.

What he says: “There were no leads or tip-offs about such an incident,” Shah said in a speech to the Rajya Sabha during Parliament’s budget session. Two people were arrested on the spot, and police discovered a car and two weapons. The event is being investigated by a forensic team, and the two individuals are being questioned by the Uttar Pradesh Police.”

  • “The Home Ministry received the Uttar Pradesh government’s report right away,” Shah added.
  • The Union Home Minister stated that Owaisi is still under threat, according to the government’s assessment, and that he has been given a bulletproof vehicle and Z category protection.
  • “However, according to his own verbal information, he (Owaisi) has refused to accept it.” In the Upper House of Parliament, Amit Shah said, “I request him to accept the security provided by the central government.” Gunshots were fired at the automobile of the AIMIM chairman in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, last week. After campaigning throughout the state for the assembly elections, Owaisi was returning to Delhi. The MP had tweeted hours after the incident that no one had been hurt.

Investigation reveals: Sachin and Shubham are citizens of Gautam Buddh Nagar and Saharanpur, respectively, and have been accused with attempted murder. Two firearms were confiscated from the attackers’ possession, and a Maruti Alto automobile was detained in connection with the investigation, according to police.

  • The Centre gave Owaisi ‘Z’ category security a day after the incident, but he rejected it and demanded that the Narendra Modi-led government make him an “A category” citizen “at par” with everyone.
  • “I don’t want security in the Z category. I want to be an A category citizen, just like the rest of you. Why wasn’t the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) used against the people who shot at me? …I’d like to live and communicate. When the impoverished are safe, my life will be safe. I’m not afraid of the people who shot at my car,” last week, Owaisi remarked in the Lok Sabha.

Owaisi also urged that the Election Commission (EC) conduct an impartial investigation into the attack.
