The first shipment of the US’ $200 million defence aid for Ukraine arrived in Kyiv on Saturday, according to the US Embassy.
The news: The delivery came after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Kyiv earlier this week, which came amid fears from Kyiv and its Western partners over tens of thousands of Russian troops massed on Ukraine’s border.
- Russia has denied that it is preparing a fresh military offensive.
- The $200 million plan was approved by the White House in December.
What the White House said: “The United States will continue providing such assistance to support Ukraine’s Armed Forces in their ongoing effort to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity against Russian aggression,” it said on Facebook.
Ukraine’s defence minister expressed gratitude to the US for its assistance.
