India beat Denmark in Davis Cup World Group 1 Playoff tie

India’s Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan defeated Denmark’s Frederik Nielsen and Mikael Torpegaard 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4). India took an unassailable 3-0 lead over Denmark in an intense doubles match of the Davis Cup World Group 1 Playoff at the Delhi Gymkhana Club on Saturday.

The news: In the first set, both teams went toe-to-toe, holding their serves. With the score tied at 6-6 in the tie-breaker, the Danes upped their game and won the set 6(3)-7(7).

  • The Indians responded quickly, with Rohan Bopanna and Divij Sharan breaking their Danish opponents in the first game of the second set and riding the momentum to tie the tennis match at 1-1.
  • With the doubles victory, India took a 3-0 lead in the five-match series and qualified for the Davis Cup World Group I stage in 2022.
