The daily tally of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in India fell below the 30,000-mark on Tuesday with 27,409 new cases being recorded in the last 24 hours. With this, active cases in the country registered a significant drop too at 4,23,127.
The news: The active Covid-19 count now accounts for less than 1 per cent (0.99 per cent) of the total infections.
- According to the Union health ministry, the death toll has risen to 5,09,358 people, with 347 new deaths.
- According to ministry data, 82,817 persons have recovered from the viral infection in the last 24 hours, bringing the overall number of recoveries to 4,17,60,468 at a rate of 97.82 percent.
- The daily positivity rate fell to 2.23 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate increased to 3.63 per cent.
What’s going on: With the number of instances of Covid-19 decreasing across the country, many states have lifted curfews and reduced restrictions, enabling schools, shops, movie theatres, and other businesses to reopen.
- Educational institutes have been allowed to reopen in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal, while the night curfew has been abolished in Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, and Assam.
So far, more than 1.73 billion vaccine doses have been administered as part of the statewide vaccination campaign, with 44,68,365 doses given in the last 24 hours alone. In the 15-18 age range, this includes 3,01,969 booster doses and 16,44,214 vaccines in a single day.
