India’s Nightingale Lata Mangeshkar Dies at 92

Lata Mangeshkar, India’s most famous and acclaimed singer, passed away on Sunday. The singer died post-covid complications after being hospitalised to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. On January 8, Lata Mangeshkar was brought to the hospital after testing positive for COVID-19, a 28-day period.

“It is with profound regret that we announce the unfortunate loss of Lata Mangeshkar at 8:12 am,” said doctor Pratit Samdani, who was treating her at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She died of multi-organ failure after more than 28 days in the hospital following COVID-19.”

Two-day national mourning has been declared following death of Lata Mangeshkar. Flag to fly at half mast. Last rites will be performed at Shivaji Park today evening.

The news of Mangeshkar’s passing has saddened the whole film industry, with many taking to social media to express their condolences. Celebrities took to social media to express their condolences.

Lata began working at an early age and has seen the worlds of music and movies change over time.

One of India’s most loved voices, the Nightingale of India was the recipient of three National Film Awards, seven Filmfare awards, and of course, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. She was conferred India’s highest civilian honour Bharat Ratna in 2001, becoming the second singer after M.S. Subbulakshmi to be so honoured, and the French awarded her the Officer of the Legion of Honour. She has also been lauded with numerous awards and honours including the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan.
