Russian forces surround two seaports in Ukraine

Russian forces have now sieged two strategic Ukrainian seaports and continued their bombardment of the country’s second-largest city on Wednesday, while the massive armored column threatening Kyiv appeared to be stalled outside the capital.

The news: It is being reported that the Russian forces have sieged two Ukrainian seaports and are still shelling the second largest city in Ukraine.

  • Meanwhile, Moscow’s isolation grew as the majority of the world joined forces at the United Nations to demand that it withdraw from Ukraine. In addition, the International Criminal Court prosecutor launched an investigation into possible war crimes.
  • A second round of talks aimed at ending the war was scheduled for Thursday, but there appeared to be little common ground between the two sides.
  • For the first time since the invasion began last week, Russia has reported military casualties, stating that nearly 500 of its troops have been killed and nearly 1,600 have been injured.

What’s going on: Ukraine hasn’t disclosed its own military losses, but has confirmed that more than 2,000 civilians were killed.

  • With fighting raging across the country, Britain’s Defense Ministry said Mariupol, a large city on the Azov Sea, was encircled by Russian forces, while the fate of another vital port, Kherson, a Black Sea shipbuilding city of 280,000 people, remained unknown.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces claimed complete control of Kherson, making it the largest city to fall so far in the invasion. However, a senior US defense official refuted this.

What are they saying: Kherson Mayor, Igor Kolykhaev stated that Russian soldiers were present in the city and came to the city administration building. He stated that he instructed them not to shoot civilians and to allow crews to collect bodies from the streets.

  • Even the mayor of Mariupol said that the attacks in his city were relentless. He said, “We cannot even take the wounded from the streets, from houses and apartments today. Since the shelling does not stop.”
  • On the other hand, the senior US defense official said the immense column of over hundred tanks and other military vehicles appeared to be within 25 km from Kyiv. The vehicles haven’t progressed in the last two days.

Also, it is informed that the convoy which launched attacks on the capital of Ukraine has now been aged with fuel and has food shortages. Along with that the convoy is facing huge resistance from the Ukrainian citizens.
