Uddhav Thackeray issued a direct challenge to Amit Shah, saying, “I dare you.”

New Delhi, 21 Sept -With party president Uddhav Thackeray challenging him to win the Senate in the elections on Wednesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and supporters to “inflict a greater wound” to the Shiv Sena in the upcoming Mumbai civic elections.

“The Shiv Sena will be given its due in the Mumbai municipal elections, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Try it, I dare you. The Shiv Sena has an unbreakable bond with the city and was very familiar with the daily struggles of common Mumbai residents, always coming to their aid when needed ” he stated.

In addition to calling the city “a piece of real estate,” Thackeray pressed his former ally, the BJP, to explain what it had contributed to constructing the metropolis”.

The Mumbai civic body has been governed by the Shiv Sena for approximately 30 years. As elections for the civic body’s five-year term are pending, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now led by an administrator.

The Shiv Sena and the BJP ran against each other in the BMC elections in 2017 despite being in an alliance in the Devendra Fadnavis-led government at the time. By winning 82 of the 227 seats up for grabs in the BMC, the BJP has dramatically increased its representation and is now only two seats behind the Sena, which won 84.

After the 2019 state Assembly elections, the Shiv Sena split from its longtime ally in saffron, alleging that the BJP leadership had broken its agreement to share the position of chief minister on a rotating basis between the two parties.

The saffron allies’ relationships deteriorated, especially after Thackeray joined forces with the NCP and Congress to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration as chief minister.

Amit Shah had earlier on September 5 instructed BJP party officials to inflict a “deeper wound” on the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena on its home ground.
