Ukraine faces cyber-attacks, Russia might be at guilt

Even though Moscow had announced a partial pullback, the USA warned of more 150,000 Russian troops on the Ukrainian border. With this, Kyiv even experienced a cyber-attack on Tuesday.

The news: The Russian defense ministry had issued a footage of calling back its troops to the military base from the border. But this was again denied by the United States.

  • US President, Joe Biden said, “Our analysts indicate that they are very much in threatening position.”
  • Meanwhile, a few hours later, after Moscow announced the news about their troops, Ukraine started experiencing denial-of-service, meaning they were unable to get online network for its defense ministry as well as a few banks.
  • Kyiv hasn’t called any names but the incident totally suggests it was an attack by Russian cyber hackers.

What’s going on: The Ukrainian bank, Privatbank users started reporting issues with their payments while also having troubles with the banking apps.

  • The Oshadbank also had a heavy and slowed down system running during this period.
  • Meanwhile, the Russian Federal Security Service also did not respond immediately to a request by press.

What are they saying: The Ukrainian centre for Strategic Communications and Information security said, “It is not ruled out that the aggressor used tactics of dirty little tricks because it’s aggressive plans are not working out on a large scale.”

  •  Looking at the troubles of Ukraine, Biden commented, “If Russia attacks the US or our allies through asymmetric means like disruptive cyber-attacks against our companies or critical infrastructure, we’re prepared to respond.”
  • According to a European diplomat, the hacking was concerning because a full military attack on Ukraine would likely be preceded by a cyber-attack.
  • The diplomat even added, “It could mean a physical attack is imminent, or it could mean Russia is continuing to mess with Ukraine.”
