Utpal Parrikar, who is the son of a former Goa Chief Minister Late Manohar Parriakr will now contest from Panaji. In a statement, he said that the circumstances forced him to take a decision of contesting as an independent candidate from Panaji, in the upcoming Goa Assembly polls.
Addressing the media Parrikar said, “I will try to meet each person in Panaji. I want to give people a good option for candidates.”
Last week Utpal was denied a ticket from Panaji Constituency by BJP, after which he resigned and gave up on his primary membership. Now he will be contesting as an independent candidate.
But according to Goa CM Pramod Sawant, Utapal was offered two constituencies by BJP to contest the election.
Goa Assembly Polls are scheduled for February 14, while Utpal has already filed his nomination papers from Panaji Assembly constituency on Thursday.
