After the long, worst period Ukraine has faced and with one meeting already done, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky invited his Russian counterpart to meet him in person.
The news: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet him.
- In a sarcastic way Zelensky said, “Sit down with me to negotiate, just not at 30 meters.”
What’s going on: Referring to the recent photos of Putin having a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, where one can see that Putin is sitting at one end of a really long table, Zelensky said, “I don’t bite. What are you afraid of?”
- Zelensky said this during a news conference on Thursday, while he was referring to the meeting that happened on Feb 7, between Putin and Macron.
- “Any words are more important than shots,” added the Ukrainian president.
- Zelensky has now called Putin for direct talks to end the ongoing war between the two countries.
What’s important: After the comments by Zelensky, Ukraine as well as Russia have agreed on a humanitarian corridor evacuation for the civilians who are fleeing Ukraine.
